CGI Scripts

Pre-installed CGI-Scripts
While HTML code is the basis of every web page, CGI scripts add substantially more dynamic content to Internet sites. Road Runner has prepared several cgi-scripts for the most important applications.

  1. CGIemail on UNIX
  2. Guestbook
  3. Message Board
  4. Random Links
  5. Hit Counter
  6. Volano Chat Room

These scripts are available with each standard hosting plan. Programming knowledge is not necessary for the implementation of these programs. CGI scripts are programs that run on the server. CGI stands for "Common Gateway Interface". It is an interface, over which external software can communicate with the Internet server. These interfaces are necessary in order to compensate for the differences between operating systems on which different Web servers runs.

CGI-Email
Feedback from web site visitors can provide useful information about a site's effectiveness. It can also be used to build a visitor or subscriber database. Forms that send user information to site owners via email can be implemented to gather information about site visitors. Road Runner offers account holders complete instructions on using CGI-Email as well as a tool that they can use to build CGI-Email forms:
